How to transfer a domain to NameOcean?

When you are transferring a domain registration from one Registrar to another, there are specific steps you will need to take to prepare your domain. Below are the details to prepare your domain for transfer with your current Registrar and then submit the transfer request with NameOcean. Requirements may vary for some ccTLDs (for example .UK and .ES).

More details on the transfer process and on how to move from a specific Registrar can be found here.

Note: If your domain expired with your old Registrar and you renewed it with them, please do not transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiration date. Otherwise an extra year would not be added to your domain name since losing Registrar revokes renewal in such cases. And you’d lose renewal fees paid to the old Registrar.

Your website will experience no downtime if your domain is pointed to your host's custom DNS servers (hosting or private nameservers). To minimize downtime during transfer in case your domain is using current Registrar's default DNS servers, please read this help article (optional).

Additionally, be aware that once a domain transfer is initiated, it won't be possible to update the domain's nameservers. If you need to perform any urgent DNS changes, make sure to do it before the transfer starts. Otherwise, you will be able to do it only upon the transfer completion.

Before you follow the instructions if your current registrar is Godaddy, please follow this article: How to transfer domain from Godaddy to NameOcean?

Step 1

Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer.

Open https://nameocean.net/transfer-domain/

Write your domain name and hit enter.

As seen on the image above. You have 3 things to do before transferring your domain on your current registrar's domain control panel.

  1. Turn off Registrar Lock (also known as Domain Lock)
  2. Disable Privacy Protection if you have any
  3. Get Authorization/EPP Code

When you complete the list. Go on to the next step.

Step 2

Open the NameOcean Domain Transfer page again.

Copy and paste your authorization code and click the button "Transfer your domain"

You will be redirected to "Sign up / Sign in" page if you are not logged in to your NameOcean account. Register or login to continue payment page.

After payment we will start the transfer of your domain name from Godaddy to NameOcean. You can see status of your domain transfer on the NameOcean dashboard page.

If everything is OK, you will see the status as "Pending". Otherwise you may need to reenter your authorization code if it is not correct. You may also contact us at info@nameocean.net any time.

You can wait up to 5 days for transfer to complete or you can ask your current registrar to speed up the transfer process.
